(D) Method of Operation:
      The Bruceton to Memphis segment of the Paducah & Memphis Division didn't receive any more advanced method of operation than timetabale/train order
      operation until CTC installation was completed around September 1954.
      DTC = Direct Traffic Control/Manual Block (no CTC or block signals, this is "dark territory").
      CTC = Centralized Traffic Central (included block signals). See Page 42 and Page 43 of NC&STL's "What CTC Did for the Dixie Line" article from the
           February 7, 1955 issue of Railway Age Magazine.
      IHS = Interlocking Home Signals.
      ABS = Automatic Block Signals.
      The main line have no defect detectors and possible used the jointed (bolted) rail all the way.

(30) This entailed advising the Interstate Commerce Commission that the railroad (part of Jackson Branch) would abandon the line effective December 30, 1981. The track scrapped around 1985. 
(31) On January 11, 1966, the L&N applied to the Interstate Commerce Commission for permission to abandon the line. The track scrapped in 1968.
(32) On August 24, 2001, CSXT filed with the Surface Transportation Board a petition for exemption to abandon a line of railroad (entire Cordova Branch). The track started to scrap in June 2008.
